Hey, Audrey

Dress- Marshall's | Blazer- J. Crew | Shoes- Lucky Brand | Necklace- Macy's | Watch- c/o Daniel Wellington

My favorite color for a good amount of time now has been purple. My room is purple, my coat is purple, my backpack is purple, my keyboard cover is purple, my bed is purple, and I have a growing collection of purple clothing.

Take this blazer from J. Crew for example! I've found it handy lately, as it adds the perfect amount of class to an outfit for an interview. It also goes well with my room.

These pictures were taken indoors in my room since it's just too cold outside. That poster/picture thing I've got hanging is Audrey Hepburn--whose style I admire--and whose movies are really quite fantastic. I haven't seen many old movies, but from what I have seen, I know enough about Audrey Hepburn to know she was one awesome lady.

A throwback to summer...I miss wearing dresses with no tights and no sweaters! As the snow falls down outside my window right now I'm wanting to be wearing this more than anything.

Calling All College Students Who Are Looking to Save (AND MAKE) Money

In the world of high school students, the first semester is almost over and a new one's about to begin. For seniors, this is glorious--no more worrying about grades sent to colleges! For juniors, this is disheartening...still TWO more that count a whole lot towards that college application process thingy.

And for college students, I presume the excitement of starting new classes and meeting new people is right around the corner (or perhaps has already began).

Whichever category you fall into (or neither, that's cool too), if you're like me, you probably are a bit lazy sometimes. And you may not have bought your textbooks. My mom is usually not a supporter of laziness (at this stage in my life I think I'd call it "senioritis") but for once, I think she might be. All you lazy people who's classes have started, and all you about to be lazy people who's classes haven't started yet, are probably still textbook-less. And that laziness is about to be rewarded because I've got a place for you to get what you need and get it at a great price (see Mom? A good deal wins out over laziness right?)

By getting your books at CampusBookRentals.com you can enjoy these perks:
-40-90% off of bookstore prices
-free shipping both ways-highlighting in the textbooks-flexible renting periods-we donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented

and more...!

PLUS you can MAKE money through their program RentBack. To find details about that, follow this link...RentBack.com

Endeavors

You may have noticed some new links in my header. Well, I'd like you to meet my New Year's resolutions, my creative outlets: three new blogs.

Photography
I've started to post some of my photography, very gradually, on Flickr. It'll be where you can stay updated with my photos now that the 365 is done. Click HERE to visit my page.

Poetry
I've also decided to make a blog for me to place my poetry. The blog is called Dream Words and I encourage you to check it out! I'll be adding poems gradually to this as well.

The 52 Project
I've already told you about this but if you didn't see it, my Week 1 and Week 2 poems were posted! See the "52" HERE.

Brother Dearest

Top- Urban Outfitters | Shorts- Kohl's | Necklace- Forever 21

My mom took our Christmas card picture while we were away so my brother and I posed for lots of pictures. We also took quite a few together ourselves (for non-Christmas card purposes). And in fact, none of the ones here were used for the Christmas card! This particular day we visited St. Thomas, the island closest to Water Island, and had some delicious Italian food.

Now that I'm back on the east coast, I'm certainly missing wearing shorts and tank tops every day!

Sunset Reflections

Here are some of the pictures I took while on Water Island. My brother was much more open to me taking pictures of him than usual...which I definitely took advantage of! If you kept up with my 365, you'd notice that he was in pretty much all of the pictures I took at the end of the year!

Speaking of that project....I encourage you to check out the new layout/design I've given it. I'm adding the photos gradually so they're not all up yet but they will be soon! Check it out here:

Christmas in Paradise

Bathing suit top- H&M | Bathing suit bottom- Target

My family spent Christmas on Water Island. After never going away for Christmas before this year, it was definitely a new experience. There's something special about laying on a tropical beach tanning while all of your friends are braving the sub 20 degree cold and snow :)

I also brought a GoPro camera in addition to my Nikon along for the trip. That's how most of these water pictures were taken. The rest were taken from my iPhone, in the new Lifeproof case I got for Christmas!

Some (New)s

My week on Water Island, right off the coast of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, flew by. I've been home since Tuesday but haven't gotten around to posting yet because I had SO many photos to sort through, and so much to do!!! It's 2014 guys, my blog is now 2 years old, my 365 project is complete....and life is good.
Many people have asked me if I'm going to do the 365 again. My answer: no. I will probably never do it again, for a few reasons:
One--it was hard, it was tiring, it was stressful. Of course it was worth it, though, for I created some of my best pictures ever. It's only January third and already it's been strange to not be taking pictures everyday. But I'm ready to move on.
Two--In all honesty, I don't know if I would be able to do it again. I worked so hard this year on my 365 and was (almost) always wholeheartedly devoted. I'll admit, there are some pictures that just don't meet the high creative standard I hold myself to. But life gets in the way sometimes, and I don't want to chance not finishing something I've started.
Three--this year, 2013, was special. Thanks to my 365, I'll remember one of the best years of my life for as long as I live. Why should I try to top that, or to recreate it? I don't want to. I want this past year to be unique and special. Doing it again would make this past year lose some of that sparkle.
BUT. My project mindset will live on. This year my 365 helped keep me to a schedule. And although it was hard to do at times, I think it was good for me. And looking back, and looking at my results, I am just so proud of myself for doing this. I don't want to be modest. I did this, and for that I am so proud. And I think I can do it again--with a twist....
Dear 2014: my graduation year, the year I'll step with finality onto a college campus, the year I'll embrace adulthood, the year I'll learn to live; I want to remember you differently than I did your predecessor.

And so, Wear Abouts readers, I'm excited to introduce to you a new project, a new idea, my New Years resolution, and a wholeheartedly "Rory" endeavor:
The 52 project. A poem a week, for the 52 weeks of 2014.
Check it out.

As a photography lover and poetry guru alike, it's only fair that I embrace the other side of my creativity for the new year.

Happy New Year, everybody. What are you doing to make this year count?
